Nervous system imprinting occurs when the body remains in a survival response due to past experiences. These questions identify whether physiology is overriding intention.
Muscle test the following questions:
1. Origin type
Did this nervous system imprint originate from a single identifiable event?
If No: Did it originate from accumulated or ongoing stress?
Guidance:
- Single event – Focus on trauma resolution, memory reconsolidation, or body-based release linked to a specific experience.
- Accumulated stress – Focus on restoring baseline regulation and reducing chronic activation rather than “processing” one event.
2. Timing
Did this imprint form in childhood?
If No: In adulthood?
Guidance:
- Childhood – Expect deeper nervous system patterning. Go slower and prioritise safety, containment, and regulation.
- Adulthood – Often resolves more quickly once safety is restored and the system updates.
3. Type
Was this a single traumatic event?
If No: Accumulated stress over time?
Guidance:
- Traumatic event – Avoid pushing mindset or manifestation work too early. Address the body’s threat memory first.
- Accumulated stress – Emphasise nervous system capacity, pacing, rest, and gradual expansion.
4. Current state
Is the nervous system currently in protection mode?
If No: In partial regulation?
Guidance:
- Protection mode – Do not attempt energetic clearing yet. Regulation must come first.
- Partial regulation – Clearing and regulation can be combined carefully.
5. Trigger presence
Are triggers currently active?
If No: Only situational?
Guidance:
- Currently active – Work with present-moment regulation tools and reduce exposure where possible.
- Situational only – Target specific contexts rather than generalised work.
6. Body override
Is the body overriding conscious desire?
If No: Is it interfering intermittently?
Guidance:
- Override – Somatic safety work is essential before belief or energy clearing.
- Intermittent interference – Use awareness, tracking, and gentle regulation alongside clearing.
7. Safety perception
Does the body perceive this outcome as unsafe?
If No: As overwhelming?
Guidance:
- Unsafe – Address threat perception directly. Do not push expansion.
- Overwhelming – Focus on capacity-building and breaking goals into smaller steps.
8. Regulation need
Is regulation required before other work can be effective?
If No: Can it be integrated alongside?
Guidance:
- Before – Pause clearing or manifestation work until regulation is established.
- Alongside – Combine nervous system support with energetic or belief work.
9. Awareness
Is the client aware of this imprint?
If No: Is it somatic and unconscious?
Guidance:
- Aware – Education and conscious tools will support integration.
- Unconscious – Avoid over-explaining. Work through body cues and felt safety.
10. Resolution focus
Does this require body-based work?
If No: Emotional processing?
Guidance:
- Body-based – Refer to or suggest somatic practices, nervous system regulation, breathwork, or trauma-informed modalities.
- Emotional processing – Emotional release, reflection, and integration may be sufficient once safety is present.
Practitioner reminder
When nervous system imprinting is present, the body must feel safe before the mind can change.
Regulation is not a detour – it is the path.

Do we need to know more?
If yes, ask if it is Nervous System Imprinting-Related. If no, go to Step 5 and proceed from there.
